Carnival
As previously announced, this year’s Carnival will take place on Saturday, 7th June, and I am pleased to be able to tell you that preparations for the event are now well under way. The Carnival Organising Committee has held three productive meetings, with a further two meetings to take place before the Carnival day.

The Carnival will again feature many of the usual events, including;

  • Crags Run

  • Fun Run

  • 5 a Side Football

  • Morris Men

  • Fairground attractions

  • Rockingham Brass Band (if available)

As in previous years, there will be a 'Fancy Dress Competition', the theme of which for 2008 is “The Village Show”.

There will also be a raffle; donations of any prizes for this will be very welcome before the Carnival day (please notify any of the organisers whose contacts are shown below).

Other field and stage acts are in the process of being booked; more details of these will be publicised at a later date. We are also planning more stalls this year, with items for sale.

A major new element of this year’s Carnival will be the 'Village Show', with competitions for

  • Garden produce - vegetables and flowers,

  • Baking,

  • Jam-making

  • Sewing and

  • Photography

There will be some special children’s competitions – ‘garden in a seed tray’, ‘decorated cupcake’ etc. – but otherwise all competitions are open, so whether you have an allotment or a window-box, please start thinking about your entries now!

The art competition will this year be part of the Village Show, and the theme of the competition is  “The Local Area”.

Entry forms and show schedules are available from the Barnburgh Post Office, the Village Store in Harlington, or downloadable from here. Contact Fran Hooper (881826), Val Jones (893875) or Helen Jones (893029)  if you want more details, or with any queries.

Like our predecessors, we are looking for help and assistance on the Carnival day. We would be pleased to hear from anyone who can spare a couple of hours or so on 7th June, to help with putting up the marquees, and preparing the site (by the Church Lane Recreation Ground) from 8 30/9 00 am on the day, and then with clearing up after the event from about 4 00 pm.

Some volunteers will also be needed to act as marshals for both the Crags Run and the Fun Run. We will welcome anyone who turns up on the day to help, but knowing in advance the likely availability of helpers will be very useful; if you are willing to assist, please contact me
