Once Upon a time we had a Church, St Peters, and two Chapels, St Helens and the Wesleyan. Now in the good old days farmers and miners must have been more inclined to drink beer than to worship because we had 8 public houses in our small villages
Eight? Yes eight! we had; The Harlington Inn, The Crown Inn, The Coach and Horses, Barnburgh Club,Green Lane Social Club , The New Inn, The Plumbers Arms and the Golden Ball.
The New Inn and The Golden Ball have been converted into houses and the Plumbers Arms was demolished.
So now we are down to one Church and 4 pubs. The Church you've seen, Now its the pubs turn. Here they are;
The Plumbers Arms was one of three pubs that stood together on High Street Barnburgh
I have been very kindly sent some information about the pub
by a relative of the Inn keeper.

I have been told that the New Inn stood on High Street Barnburgh and is now know as Plane Tree Farm House.
It was an important building as it was at this Inn that special sessions of West Riding assizes were held to settle arbitration disputes.
The Landlord is recorded in 1820 as John Kelton. Do you know anything about the New Inn?
The Building now known as Bethany Cottage was once the Golden Ball public house. We have learnt that at some time it was a shop called 'Toothills' but what about the other years? Do you know of its history?
I desperately need some photos of Green Lane Social Club, Internal and External Please
There is a sign on the empty building now that says it is for sale which means its probably due for demolition!
